Albula Line 2 - Rolling stock

INCLUDED TRAINS

IMPORTANT:  You must install both the route and the add-on rolling stock (in file RhBpack.zip) before using this route!  The correct rolling stock is needed to run the Activities of this route.  Note that much of the rolling stock has been updated compared to the versions available elsewhere on the web; and most of them will be placed in new folders with new names, so that all older consists that you may have will still work.

Some default MSTS rolling stock is used, namely the Orient Express 380 steam engine and tender, a couple of OE wagons, and a couple of Scots wagons:  these are certainly not realistic, but play the role of old-time rolling stock used by RhB.  However, the majority of Activities use add-on rolling stock, most of which were developed specifically for the Rhätische Bahn.

A large number of consists are included in this rolling stock package, combining them in various ways.  They are named OE380*.con and RhB*.con:  in the RhB case, trains are labeled with the locomotive serial number (as in RhB615_6pers.con, meaning the 615 locomotive pulling 6 passenger wagons), while "loose consists" (which have no locomotive) are labeled RhB_* (as in RhB_4freight.con, meaning 4 freight wagons).

The following table describes and illustrates the included add-on rolling stock.  I find it easiest to remember the locomotives by their serial numbers:  353, 414, etc.

The locomotives use the default Acela cabview, which may be replaced as you wish (see some recommendations in the next section).

NOTE:  MSTS does not recognize the motorized units (ABe 4/4, BDt 1721, and ABe 4/4 III) as passenger service in Activities (it treats them as locomotives), so MSTS does not control or check their station stops.

OTHER ADD-ON TRAINS (NOT INCLUDED)

Besides the included trains (discussed above), there are several appropriate freeware add-on trains available on the web.  Note that any add-on train should be designed for regular-gauge track (not narrow-gauge track);  otherwise, the rolling stock will appear about 50% too large when used on Albula Line 2.  None of these is required in any of the Albula Line 2 Activities.  They include:

·    A RhB 627 locomotive, repainted for RhB by Sjoerd Lafeber from a Swedish locomotive by Mats Strid:  rhb627.zip (1 Mb) from http://www.geocities.com/sjoerdmsts/.

·    RhB passenger cars, repainted by Sjoerd Lafeber:  RhB_Wagon_12_v1.zip (410 Kb), RhB_Wagon_2_v1.zip (300 Kb), RhB_wagon_v1.zip (200 Kb) and RhB_Wagon1_v1.zip (255 Kb), all from http://www.geocities.com/sjoerdmsts/.

·    A classic passenger car, repainted by Jörg Widmer into RhB colors:  rhbwagen.zip (560 Kb), available at http://www.thetrain.de/.

·    These "Krokodil" cab views are recommended for the RhB 414 (and 353) locomotives:  OBB1189cab.zip (2.8 Mb) by Klaus Kraml, available at http://www.thetrain.de/, be68_CabView.zip (1.9 Mb) by MadMike, available at http://www.mikemad.de/msts.htm.

·    A cab view adapted by Joachim Zander from that by Blackman for a DR101 switcher is recommended for the Te 2/2 73 switcher:  it is available in a separate file by Joachim Zander containing the Te 2/2 73 switcher at Train-Sim.com and http://www.thetrain.de/ (it is not included in this RhBpack.zip because we could not contact Blackman).

·    Kenji Kimura's RBe44 cabview is recommended for the RhB 353 locomotive:  RBe44cab.zip (1.6 Mb), from http://www.thetrain.de/.

·    Any of the various rotary snow plows available at Train-Sim.com and elsewhere.

·    A repaint of the SBB-Kolibri in the colors of the Regionalverkehr Mittelland, private Swiss railway company:  RM-Rbde.zip (700 Kb) from http://www.trainsimulator.ch.

·    Many suitable freight wagons are available at http://www.thetrain.de/ and elsewhere, even though they may not have RhB markings.
